You can take my wallet, just don’t touch my cell phone!

More evidence that mobile computing may finally have arrived, a recent IDC survey found that more than one-third of workers would choose their mobile phone over their wallet, keys, laptop or digital music player if they had to leave the house for 24 hours and could take only one item.

More interesting, however, is that number of people who are “hyper-connected”, 16%. Hyper-connected means the person uses at least seven devices for work and personal access and at least nine applications like instant messaging, text messaging or web conferencing. No wonder marketers are having trouble figuring out how to reach people! It’s not going to get any easier either, IDC predicts the number of hyper-connected users will grow to 40% in just five years.

Not surprisingly China had the highest percentage of hyper-connected users and the United states had the lowest, continuing the trend of slower mobile adoption in the US.

Any stats on hyper connectivity - how much are individual devices vs. multi function? In China, they have cell phones that have text only plans….
